Including EPA Hazardous Waste Codes on Reports

Q:
Final Report – EPA Hazardous Waste Codes
EPA Hazardous Waste Codes—specifically the D-codes and F-codes—need to be included in the final report, aligned next to the analyte they’re associated with. For example, Benzene carries both D018 and F005. Clients depend on this information to determine how to handle their waste when results exceed RCRA limits. What’s the best way to incorporate this into the reporting structure?

A:
EPA Hazardous Waste Codes: Getting these codes to appear on reports depends on how you’re entering them in LIMS (if you are).

It might be best to use create EPA codes as Methods that you can apply to analyses. Methods can be created for any purpose but are usually associated with analyses and will appear next to analyses on reports. Create and edit Methods by choosing the Notebook tab from the main menu and selecting “Methods” under the Data Entry/Inquiry column.

You could name a method for each EPA code, and then in Setup > Analyses you can choose from a picklist of the Methods you’ve added. By doing this, any time you select that analysis it will be associated with its method and the method will appear on final reports. Know that an analysis can only be associated with one method, so you will want to consider making multiple/duplicate analyses (like the same specifications but with different analysis names, like “BenzeneD018” and “BenzeneF005”).
